Work from home
With the passage of time, the idea of working from home is being increasingly implemented in the daily lives of workers. The increase in the advance of technologies and the new needs that arise make working from home more attractive for companies and workers. However, do we know correctly what are the benefits of working from home?
Many workers would already prefer to work from home if they could but their companies do not have this advantage. This mode of working has perhaps reached its peak this past season due to the pandemic and its importance is probably here to stay.
Obviously not all jobs can be done from home but it is true that it is becoming easier to perform tasks from the comfort of your home, often with a simple computer. Let's review what the benefits can be:
Better work/life balance
Time can be considered as the most important magnitude of all. You can turn your time into a good economic value, in improving your health, in having a good time of leisure or you can invest it in a negative way; but the important thing is to have it. This is where teleworking comes in, since the fact of having two more hours for you to invest them in whatever you want, instead of spending them in commuting from your work to your place of residence and vice versa is quite appetizing. In addition to saving time, we also stop investing a significant amount of money in gasoline or public transportation.
Home-based performance can be improved
Working from home can improve worker performance. By reducing the time spent on tasks related to the work environment that are not necessary when working from home we create a more comfortable work environment in which we only perform important tasks. This reduces stress and tension.
Working at home can also have negative aspects
It is important to be aware of the importance of following a schedule. Being at home we have no pressure or at least not the same pressure we have at the workplace to continue with the work. Without a specific schedule or a supervisor we can leave everything for later and completely disrupt the work schedule. Another important negative aspect is that we will not maintain the same relationships with our colleagues and/or superiors, although some people may find it beneficial.
